8830 Can't seem to track with 0.5.1

Reported by: mike Assigned to: saua (accepted)
Priority: major Milestone: 1.0
Component: MIDlet Version: 0.5.3.1
Keywords: 8830 Cc:

Description

I have installed version 0.5.1 on my Sprint BB8830. When I start a new track, it shows "nothing to plot, yet" continuously. When I switch to other applications on the BB (like Google Maps, Live Maps, or the native BB Maps application), all seem to be able to see satellites fine and give regular updates of my location.

I have previously used version 0.4.x successfully on the same device. It stopped working when I upgraded to 0.5.0, and still doesn't work after I upgraded to 0.5.1. I have tried deleting the application and reinstalling, and I get the same results.

For options, I have the following settings:

  • Location/GPS: Location API (which has a green check next to it)
  • Sample interval in seconds: 5
  • Units: Imperial
  • Status text size: Medium
  • Details text size: Medium
  • Startup Action: Initialize GPS
  • Track directory: SDCard/Tracks/ (same location as used in previous versions, it does exist)

I'm happy to provide any assistance I can in further debugging of this issue.

I'm not sure if this is related, but when I quit out of the application while it is in this state (recording a track, but nothing to plot yet), I get an "Uncaught exception: Task already scheduled or cancelled" message. This occurs after I get the "Really Quit?" dialog and chose the "Quit" button. The version of the dialog that is displayed is the one that reads "Recording the current Track <trackname> will stop and it will be saved".

  • status changed from new to assigned.

Could you enable debug output to a file on the about-screen and send me the debug.txt after trying one more time to get a signal? That might contain some valuable information.

Here is a debug log from my 8830 - hope this helps:

Debug Log 10:04:55 BBTracker first startApp 10:04:55 n [API] JSR-179 available 10:04:55 n [API] Bluetooth available 10:04:55 n [API] RMS available 10:04:55 n [API] File available 10:04:55 n Using JSR 179 Location Provider

I have tried the same thing a bunch of times - changing providers, restarting the app, rebooting the 8830. The main screen always shows "nothing to plot, yet" (doesn't complain, either).

Any news on this item?

  • version changed from 0.5.1 to 0.5.3.1.

I also using 0.5.3.1 with Blackberry 8310 and have the same problem.

A few observations: - google maps works, but gpsed doesn't; - i never had any other versions installed. sometimes bbtracker works, sometimes it behaves as described above. i've tried to turn off and use it from fresh restart, but it seems not to help; - i am using vodafone uk. is it possible they are blocking the service?

I have the same problem with my 8310 with Internal GPS

I have bbtracker 0.5.3.1 and blackberry 8310 SW v 4.2.2.181

bbTracker does not seem to recognize the internal GPS at all, but my other GPS applications works fine (Tele Atlas by BB, Google Maps, AllSports? GPS)

I can confirm this too. While v0.4.2 does work on my 8310, v0.5.x does not. This happens also to a friend of mine, using a 8800. No problems with other GPS apps.
